The Gyrotonic Method

The basic essence of Gyrotonic consists of organic movements that are performed rhythmically. The flowing training is based on basic spinal movements. The aim is to stimulate and move each system – muscular, skeletal, nervous – so that the whole body gains vitality.

The method was developed by Julio Horvath and consists of two complementary forms:
Gyrokinesis, the original form, is practiced without any other aids.
In order to convey the essence of the method more directly, Julio designed devices that support movement through guidance and resistance, from which Gyrotonic was born. Both forms, Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonic, operate under the name Gyrotonic Expansion System.

Initially used mainly by dancers, it soon found great acceptance in other circles as well. Nowadays, people of all ages and lifestyles benefit from this system as therapy, sport or as a way to balance out everyday life.

Juliu Horvath, of Hungarian-German origin, was born in Romania in 1942. His affection for movement was already noticeable in early childhood. He successfully practiced swimming, gymnastics and rowing. At the age of 19 he began his career as a classical dancer.

His attitude to work was characterized by maximum dedication. He formed his personality according to his goals based on his own observations and intuition. The successes confirmed his efforts. As a solo dancer in Romania and later in the USA he danced in various leading roles alongside other international stars.

He had to stop his career as a dancer because of a severe spinal injury. He has devoted himself to the search for the truth of Eastern medicine, Kundalini Yoga and acupuncture. In the process, his experience gained from dance and sports attained new dimensions. A movement system was created, which he began teaching in New York under the name “Yoga for Dancers”, today known as Gyrokinesis®.

If you want to improve your quality of life, Juliu Horvath’s method will help you get ahead. Gyrokinesis® is a welcome enrichment and is used worldwide.
